The Cape Ann Residency was created by the Charles Family Foundation, in collaboration with the Cape Ann Museum and Boston's Copley Society of Art, dedicated to promoting the art communities of the North Shore and Boston.

The residency offers to embrace the artistc aesthetic of the North Shore, the abundance of painters and beautiful plein air locations in Rockport, Annisquam, Gloucester, and Essex. Moreover, it also aids artists to explore new painting techniques, as well as to meet the North Shore's most recognized painters

The Copley Society gives its artist members the oppurtunity to apply for residency. This September, Laureen Hylka was selected to be the artist in residence.

Opening Reception
March 18th, 2017: 1 – 5

The human body is a source of wonder. Artists in the Form Face and Figure show have explored the beauty of the body at rest and in motion. The play of light and shadow over the body either on the skin or clothed makes for a universally evocative composition. Whether a portrait or a figure study the single body engages your interest with either a gesture or a gaze from the canvas. Figures cast in groups relate to their environment and each other in a canvas universe created by the artists just for you the viewer.

COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT

Commissioning a Portrait is an important undertaking for generations to come so it's crucial to make the distinction between merely copying a photo and creating an expressive work of art.

The untrained eye draws a mask, devoid of character and depth. A skilled artist brings the experience of working from life to improve on a photo and imparts the crucial element which the camera cannot express; the soul.

When photographs are used, developing a portrait from a number of references, vs. just copying a single photo is crucial. It’s beneficial to work from life but if not possible it is best to meet the subject in person to prepare preliminary sketches and schedule a photo session.

Give the Gift of Art, Commission your Legacy. Schedule and or arrange for your custom portrait by Eli Cedrone at Charles Fine Arts. To coordinate your commissioned portrait with Eli Cedrone, contact us here at Charles Fine Arts: 978.559.7762 or Send us an email.
