Kathleen Miller Contemporary Impressionist painter Kathleen Miller was born and raised in Gloucester Massachusetts, an area known for being the oldest art colony in the country. The rich art history of the area had a strong influence on Kathleen growing up, and she began taking classes in drawing and painting at the young age of 6, and continued studying art throughout high school, college and beyond. Although her academic major was Counseling and Psychology, in which she completed her Master’s Degree, Kathleen’s art education continued as she took night classes and intensive workshops in painting and fine art. Her studies eventually led her to become an Art Therapist as she joined her Counseling skills and her passion for art. She now works as a full-time artist, but her background as a therapist greatly influences her work. She infuses each of her pieces with emotion and uses art as a vehicle for expression. Her landscapes convey to the viewer her connection to the beauty and intensity of the coastline, her main source of inspiration. She uses color, texture and bold paint application to demonstrate not just the beauty and the ever changing moods of the landscape, but the shifting perspective of the artist herself. Painting for Kathleen is a mode of self-expression, a way to form a deeper connection with others and the natural world, and also a tool for healing– for both the artist and the viewer. Kathleen works primarily in oils and mixed media. Her style may be described as Contemporary Impressionism, with strong expressive and abstract influences.
